The Art of Recovery – Spring 2021

The BMC Health & Wellness Center presents free virtual event for the Bryn Mawr College Community to celebrate National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, The Art of Recovery.

Looking at the visual art expressions of individuals in treatment for eating disorders can give us a profound window into their experiences. This digital slideshow will focus on common themes and motifs that show up in the art, with commentary and analysis provided by Sondra Rosenberg, ATR-BC, Renfrew’s Creative Arts Therapies Supervisor. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the various inner conflicts that give rise to disordered eating. There will also be a special guest appearance by a Renfrew alum who will speak about the role of creativity in their recovery process.

The Returning Students Workshop Series is a four-week support program for undergraduate students returning to BMC from a leave of absence. These confidential workshops will serve as a space for sharing, receiving support, and learning helpful strategies. Themes to be explored may include:

  • Range of feelings about coming back to campus
  • Internal and external pressure to succeed
  • Concerns about stigma or judgment
  • Perfectionism and/or feeling “behind”
  • Change of original college timeline
  • Changes in mindset, priorities, and/or interests upon re-entry
  • Additional support systems, within and outside the College

Switching scenes – Dealing with Relocation and Remote Learning

Most of you are completing the semester away from Bryn Mawr College. Moving away from campus is a big change and it’s likely bringing up all kinds of emotions. We’d like to create a space for students to come together virtually to talk about the impact of this recent change. What have some of the greatest challenges been so far? How have you coped with them? Please, join us for an hour-long confidential conversation on this topic, which will be co-facilitated by members of BMC Counseling Staff. You can choose from the following times: drop-in groups are being held on Wednesdays 12/9/20 and 12/16/20 from 11:30am to 12:30pm. A committed group, which will meet two times over the next two weeks, is being offered on Monday, December 7, 2020 and on December 14, 2020 from 2pm to 3pm. If you’d like to register for any of these groups, please contact Ania at akubin@brynmawr.edu.
